Jesse to interview former Poet Laureate Charles Wright

27608ba2-2164-4bd4-8616-9fd545dd251dEast Tennessee State University will host Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and former Poet Laureate of the United States Charles Wright on Wednesday, October 25, for two free and public events. At 2:00 p.m. in the campus’s Reece Museum,  there will be a public interview with Wright conducted by Jesse. At 7:30 that evening, Wright will present a reading in the Martha Culp Auditorium. Wright’s visit is the first fall event of the ETSU Creative Writing Festival, of which Jesse is the director.

Rodd Altizer Poet-in-Residence Program

Jesse will be hosted by Southwest Virginia Community College’s Rodd Altizer Poet-in-Residence program on October 10 and 11. There will be several public events, including a reading and reception at the Appalachian Arts Center in Cedar Bluff, VA at 7:00 p.m. on October 10, and a reading on the SWCC campus on October 11 at 10:50 a.m. See the program page for a full list of events and directions.

Yucatan Meets Appalachia: A Bilingual Poetry Recital with Manuel Iris and Jesse Graves

On Thursday, April 20, Jesse and Mexican poet Manuel Iris will present an English/Spanish reading at East Tennessee State University’s D.P. Culp Center. There will be a reception afterward. The reading, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Culp Center’s East Tennessee Room (room 392). For more information, see the event page.

Second Annual ETSU Creative Writing Festival

17352069_1259421090837897_4847799884429945659_n (1)The second annual East Tennessee State University Creative Writing Festival, of which Jesse is the director, will take place Tuesday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 12 at the Reece Museum on the ETSU campus. Award-winning poet and Cornell University professor Ishion Hutchinson is this year’s keynote speaker. Jesse will conduct a public interview with Hutchinson from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on the second day of the festival.
